Standing in the Gap

A simple guide to praying for healing, deliverance & freedom for our Community.
Print The Guide Request Prayer

You're not a spectator, and you're not powerless.

You've been invited to stand in the gap for the people and places you love — not because you're special or trained, but because you're His, and you're here.

That's both a responsibility and a gift.

You don't need perfect words. You don't need a title or a spiritual résumé. You just need to show up humble and willing. This guide is yours — use it for yourself, your family, your street, and your city.

A SIMPLE WAY TO PRAY (4 STEPS)

However you pray, these four steps keep it honest and keep it His:

1. Submit. Get quiet. You're not doing this in your own strength. "Not my will, but Yours."

2. Pray. Say the thing plainly. Name the person, the place, the need.

3. Listen. Leave space. Let Him put something on your heart before you rush ahead.

4. Obey. If He nudges you toward a person, a call, a step — do the small thing.

That's the whole thing. You can pray for anything below with these four steps.

THREE WAYS TO PRAY

Healing — for the body and the heart Asking God to make whole what's broken — sickness in the body, and wounds in the heart that don't show on an x-ray.

  • Name what hurts, plainly. Don't dress it up.
  • Ask God to heal it. Thank Him that He's for you, not against you.
  • Speak peace over the fear that rides along with the pain. Pray it: "Father, You see this pain. Heal it — body and heart. Where there's fear, bring Your peace. I trust You with this." Lean on: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3

Deliverance — for what's got a grip This isn't dramatic or scary. It's simply asking Jesus to break the hold of the things that keep coming back — addiction, fear, torment, the cycles you can't seem to shake alone.

You're not working for the freedom. You're resting in what He already did.

  • Name the grip honestly — the addiction, the fear, the shame.
  • Ask Jesus to break its hold, in His authority, not yours.
  • Fill the space. Ask Him to move into the room it leaves behind. Pray it: "Jesus, this has had a grip long enough. In Your name, break it. Take the shame, take the fear, and fill that place with You." Lean on: "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." — John 8:36

Freedom — for walking it out Getting free is one thing. Staying free is another. This one is about identity — remembering who you are now, and not going back to the old chains.

  • Thank God for the freedom already given — even the small steps.
  • Ask Him to root your identity in Him, not the old story.
  • Pray protection over the freedom you've been given. Pray it: "Father, thank You for the freedom I'm walking in. Remind me who I am in You. Guard this, and don't let me trade it back." Lean on: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free... do not be burdened again." — Galatians 5:1

WHERE TO PRAY (START CLOSE, REACH OUT)

You pray best for others out of what you've first received yourself. So start at home and move outward.

Yourself & your family. Start here. Healing over the sick, freedom over the cycles, peace over the people you love. Your home is the first place you stand.

Your neighborhood — the 3 streets. Pick the three streets around your house. As you drive or walk them, quietly bless each home with peace, protection, and God's nearness. When you sense someone's struggling nearby, don't just pass it by — lift them up.

Your city — Yuma.
Four areas to keep before God:

  • Addiction & Families
  • Mental Health
  • Churches & Ministries
  • Local Businesses.
